Learning does not necessarily end once school is out for the day. If your child is not already involved in an extracurricular activity at his or her school, there are plenty of other choices. Keep your child’s body and mind active with one (or more) of these after school activity ideas.
The Desert Foothills Campus YMCA is located at 34250 N. 60th St and offers many choices for keeping kids engaged after school. Is your child interested in music? There is a recording studio right on premises. They can take guitar lessons and then record what they just learned. They also offer a variety of sports: volleyball, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, golf and martial arts, and swimming, just to name a few. There is also a homework club and a “teens after school” get together.
Does your child like theater or acting? Try Voices Studio located at 16674 N. 91st Street, Suite D-102. Your child can take private voice, music and acting lessons or take one of the many group classes that is offered. At the end of each semester, your child will participate in a performance showcase.
Has your child expressed interest in Ice Skating or Hockey? Try the Coyotes Ice Den, located at 9375 East Bell Road. They offer skating and hockey programs for all ages.
Dancing and gymnastics are popular activities for children to participate in. Plumb Performing Arts Studio is a competitive dance studio located at 9153 E. Bell Road. Gymnastics are offered at Extreme Gymnastics in the Scottsdale Airpark. There are a wide range of classes for all ages.
Scottsdale Parks and Recreation is a great place to look for after school activities. Like the YMCA, they offer an assortment of activities such as aquatics, youth sports, school programs, summer programs, teen programs and adapted recreation.
With so many choices for after school programs near the McDowell Mountain area, your child should never be bored again after school!
