The idea of living in a place called “carefree” conjures up images of warm days and a laidback atmosphere. This is indeed the case in the Carefree community. This residential area is in Maricopa County. Carefree is located North of Scottsdale and about 20 miles north of Phoenix. It is about a 48-minute drive from Carefree to downtown Scottsdale. Carefree borders Tonto National Forest, which offers world-class access to nature over 3 million acres.
Carefree also borders Cave Creek, Arizona and the two regions share many of the same amenities. In fact, Cave Creek and Carefree are often considered to be one community. According to the Census Bureau in 2006, the town’s population is 3799. The median income for families living in Carefree homes is currently approximately $105,000.
The motto of the Carefree is “Home of Cowboys and Caviar, Where the Old West Meets the New.” This motto reflects the fact that this is a very upscale area. Carefree has memorable street names such as “Tranquil Trail,” “Easy Street” and Ho-and-Hum Roads.””
It is estimated that there are less than 2000 Carefree homes. Currently, the price for a house or condo in the area is about $300,000. However, Carefree homes have sold for up to $1 million. The current population of Carefree is about 5000. The school district in Carefree is The Cave Creek Unified School district.
Carefree homes are near a lot of entertainment. For example there is the Boulders Resort and the Golden Door Spa. Also there are a wide variety of restaurants. Downtown Carefree’s Easy Street has cute stores as well as boutiques, and galleries. There is a small amphitheater in downtown Carefree, which hosts the farmer’s market.
Many people visit Cave Creek to see the Sundial, as this is a popular tourist attraction. It is amongst the largest working sundials in the Western hemisphere and measures 90 feet in diameter. One popular place for tourists to stay is the Carefree Resort and Conference Center. This building is situated on 23 beautiful acres and the resort has 222 rooms.
Only 17 miles east of Carefree is Bartlett Lake, which is a water attraction where you can swim, fish, hike or boat. Owners of Carefree homes also have easy access to the Spur Cross Conservation area that spans over 2000 miles of diverse Sonoran desert. Of course, there is also the Cave Creek Recreation area that has gorgeous trails that loop around the mountain.
