When I moved here from out of town, about six years ago, one of the first things on my “to do” list was find a great Sushi Restaurant. I tried a couple of different places, but some were just “okay” and others were just too far away. Living in North Scottsdale I was determined to find a Sushi Restaurant that was nearby and extremely delicious. Luckily, I finally did and now one of my favorite places to eat sushi is Sushi Brokers in North Scottsdale located at 17025 N. Scottsdale Road just north of Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd on Scottsdale Road.
There are numerous reasons that I love to eat at Sushi Brokers and one of them of course is their amazing food! I used to be a strictly sashimi (raw fish) kind of person. I generally stayed away from any of the rolls at sushi restaurants because I didn’t feel they were part of the authentic sushi experience. However, when I started going to SB I had no choice because the rolls came so highly recommended so I had to try them, and then I was hooked. My absolute favorite rolls are the Damn Good ($14): shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and avocado topped with sweet chipotle sauce, Cowboy Roll ($14): spicy tuna roll topped with sliced tuna and spicy sauces, and Chimichunga ($12): spicy krab mix, avocado, cucumber, and then the entire roll is tempura battered and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. Just writing this down is making me crave my favorite place!
Another favorite I always like to order is the Volcano Chicken ($6) appetizer which is tempura battered chicken doused with Louisiana Hot Sauce and served over rice ( my kids order this, but with teriyaki sauce substituted instead and they love it). If you are looking for good sashimi then this a great place to order that too! The selection is always fresh and never misses a beat. My husband isn’t much of a sushi kind of guy (though he really has warmed up to the Chimichunga and Damn Good rolls) so he generally orders the Kobe Burger with fries and it is phenomenal and not just for a sushi place, but for a burger joint too.
One of the other reasons I really love going to SB is that they have an amazing Happy Hour every day (including the weekend) from 3 to 6:30pm and Reverse Happy Hour Fri.-Sat. from 10PM to 1AM. This is a great time to get a good deal on numerous rolls (including my favorites), sashimi, appetizers, and of course drinks too.
The vibe in Sushi Brokers is young and hip with popular music constantly playing and huge flat screens broadcasting sports. SB is an extremely busy restaurant and sometimes you may see a line coming out the door, but by my standards that is a good sign because it means good food and fresh sushi!
