UPDATE: This year’s information can be found here.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open returns for 2017 from Monday, January 30th through Sunday February 5th, at the TPC Scottsdale. The party vibe golf tournament continues to break attendance records, last year bringing in a record breaking 618,365 for the week! Known as the “People’s Major,” the Phoenix Open is not only a sporting event, but also a mini music festival with big name acts performing at the Coors Light Birds Nest! Birds Nest headliners for the 2017 after party include: Blink-182, Flo Rida, Kaskade and Toby Keith.
“The event as exploded over the past 30 years,” said tournament chairman Andy Markham. “We have some of the best weather in the world this time of year … and the people of Phoenix and Scottsdale just love to have a good time. The tournament gets national exposure, and people have come to know the iconic 16th hole.” The 16th hole is the arena-style hole at the tournament with general admission bleacher seats that are highly coveted first-come, first-served. Ten more VIP sky boxes have also been added in 2017, bringing the capacity of the 16th to more than 16,000!
Hosted by the Thunderbirds, the golf tournament raises money to benefit youth programs. In 2016 more than $9 million was given away to charity organizations including the Special Olympics Arizona, Homeward Bound and Boys & Girls Clubs. In addition to Tuesday being the PGA practice round, there is also the R.S. Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation Dream Day Activities featuring motivational speeches from PGA pros, a junior golf clinic and trick-shot show. The Special Olympics Open and PGA Tour Wives Classic is also on Tuesday.
