8 Tips For Keeping Your House in Troon Secure While You Are Away

Troon_North_home_for_sale.FrontTaking a well-deserved vacation in the near future? Make sure when you are planning for your vacation you also plan to take precautions to keep your home in Troon North Real Estate safe while you are away. By adopting a “better safe than sorry” attitude, you will be able to relax and enjoy your trip knowing that your home is safe and secure.

Consider Hiring a Pet or House Sitter

The best way to make sure your house is safe while you’re away is to have someone you trust stay there while you are gone. You may be lucky enough to have a relative or a good friend who is willing to stay at your home and get the mail, water the plants, and take care of any pets you may have. Another option is to hire a pet sitter from a reputable house sitting service, but this can get expensive so be prepared for that.

Hold Your Mail

If you are leaving for more than a couple of days, contact your local post office and stop mail delivery until you get back. They can hold mail for up to 30 days

Stop Newspaper Delivery

There is nothing like a pile of newspapers in your driveway to tell a potential intruder that your home is unoccupied. Stopping the newspaper when you leave for a while is easy to forget but is an important step in keeping your home secure. If you still get your paper delivered, call your newspaper and stop the service while you are gone.

Have Neighbors Keep An Eye on Your Property

Even if you have your mail and your newspaper stopped, it’s always a good idea to have some extra eyes on your property. Have one of your neighbors check your home periodically while you are gone. You never know when phone books might be delivered or if the UPS guy leaves a package in front of your home to sit and make it obvious no one is home.

Make Your Home Look Lived In

To help create the illusion that the residence is still occupied, invest in timers that turn on the lights for a few hours every evening. Also, if you can get a neighbor to take out the garbage and put the cans back after pickup, it’s a good way to send a message that things are “business as usual” at your house in the North Scottsdale Homes for Sale area.

Keep the Landscape Trimmed

If you normally keep your lawn and yard well-manicured and if you don’t already pay someone to take care of your landscaping, this is the time to hire someone to do it. If things start to look overgrown and neglected, it’s easy for someone to come to the conclusion that no one is around.

Lock Up

This seems obvious, but it’s easy to forget! If you are relaxed about keeping a window open or never bother to turn a deadbolt, now is the time to double check to make sure everything is locked and secure. And don’t forget to set your house alarm if you have one! If you don’t make it easy for burglars to get into your home, then chances are they will pass it by.

Social Networking: Don’t Project your Moves

Nowadays we can thank Facebook and Twitter for keeping us up to date on what is happening in people’s lives. But use caution when you talk about your trip. Facebook isn’t the best place to announce that you will be away for a month. Be aware of who you are talking to and who is around you when you talk about your vacation. The less information you put out there, the less likely it is to reach the wrong ears and eyes.

After using these tips as your guideline, go have a relaxed, worry-free vacation knowing your home is safe and sound!
