Scottsdale is Named “Top Dog”

Scottsdale is named "Top Dog"

Scottsdale recently took the #1 spot in two separate studies that compare the pet-friendliness of America’s largest cities. Scottsdale was named the 2024 Most Pet-Friendly City of WalletHub and took the top spot in Lawn Starter’s recent rankings!

With Scottsdale’s abundant sunshine, beautiful parks, pet-friendly businesses, and a welcoming community that loves its four-legged residents, it’s a paradise for dogs and their owners alike. The city offers a wide range of amenities tailored to pets, from dog-friendly restaurants and hotels to numerous off-leash parks where dogs can roam, play, and socialize. Below are a few of our favorite Scottsdale dog parks:

  • Chaparral Dog Park: Chapparal is one of Scottsdale’s largest and most popular dog parks with three separate off-leash lawn enclosures for both active and passive dogs of any size to run around and play. The 100-acre park itself is well-maintained and features water fountains for dogs and humans to stay hydrated, restrooms, benches to sit and relax, and a nice walking path for you and your pooch to enjoy, which is well-lit at night. 5401 N Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, AZ
  • Horizon Dog Park: Horizon is a smaller off-leash dog area located in a retention basin in Horizon Park, with 2/3 of an acre of property and several fenced-in areas to explore. There is a large shaded structure to sit under, well-shaded bench areas, a restroom, and water fountains on-site. Do keep in mind that the red dirt surfaces can become rather dusty, and the area is also prone to flooding, so the park may close for a few days after a rainstorm. 15444 N. 100th St. Scottsdale, AZ
  • Sonoran Hills Park: Sonoran Hills is a large 10-acre park that does not offer a designated or enclosed off-leash area for dogs, but you can let your well-behaved dogs off of their leash to run around and enjoy the open grounds. There are covered picnic areas, tennis courts, a playground, a restroom, and a large open turf area available as well, making it one of the best dog-friendly activity parks in Scottsdale. 7625 E. Tips for Visiting Scottsdale Dog Parks

  1. Follow Park Rules: Each dog park has specific rules to ensure safety and enjoyment for everyone. Make sure to read and follow them, including leash laws, pet etiquette, and cleaning up after your dog.
  2. Bring Essentials: Although many parks provide water stations and waste bags, it’s always a good idea to bring your own supply of water, waste bags, and any other essentials your dog might need.
  3. Be Weather Aware: Scottsdale’s climate can be very hot, especially in the summer. Plan your visits for early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler, and always keep an eye on your dog for signs of overheating.
  4. Socialize Your Dog: Before visiting a dog park, ensure your dog is comfortable around other dogs and people. Dog parks are great for socialization, but they can be overwhelming for dogs that are not used to being around others.

Scottsdale offers a variety of dog parks that cater to different needs, whether you’re looking for a large, active space or a quieter, more relaxed environment. Each park has its unique charm, making it easy to find the perfect spot for you and your furry friend to enjoy some quality time outdoors. So, grab your leash, pack some water, and head out to one of Scottsdale’s top dog parks for a fun-filled day with your dog!
