Each winter, the Phoenix Zoo puts on an amazing display of colorful holiday lights for ZooLights! It takes five people nearly four months to install the millions of lights. Over the past several years, the zoo has been transitioning its lights to LED ones each year and this year, all of the lights are LED. The millions of lights and lighted animal displays are placed throughout the zoo creating a magical evening for the entire family.
In 2018, the Music in Motion light show will be synchronized to violinist (and Gilbert native) Lindsey Stirling’s performance of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” The song plays a few times every hour and will be synchronized with light elements in and around the zoo’s lake.
Children will be delighted with the return of Tortuga and Jengo. Children will be able to interact, share jokes and play games with Jenga, a life-sized talking giraffe, and Tortuga, a talking Galapagos tortoise.
Stingray Bay and the 4-D Theater will be included with a general admission Zoolight ticket this year. Stingray Bay has a pool with cow-nosed stingrays that visitors can touch. The 4-D Theater is an experiential exhibit with a 3-D movie that incorporates elements such as wind, rain and vibration to add to the experience.
