Sometimes, the best places are just right around the corner. This is surely the case for residents of North Scottsdale fortunate enough to have Lorenzo’s Pizza and Pasta nearby. Lorenzo’s is located on the corner of Scottsdale Road and Pinnacle Peak Road at 23623 N. Scottsdale Road and is an order and seat yourself kind of place. Honestly, I have passed this location numerous times and always thought they must have good food because they are still open. Truly in this day and age the only way a small restaurant can make it, especially north of the 101, is if they have great food!
Well, one night I found myself with nothing in the fridge to make for dinner, and so I headed out to Safeway to grab a couple of things. Not feeling all that ambitious about cooking I decided to check out Lorenzo’s Pizza and Pasta instead. When I walked into the restaurant I discovered a small quaint location that offers a full Italian menu for dine in, take-out, or delivery (what? How could I have not been here before?). I proceeded to order a large New York Style thin crust pizza with half cheese and pepperoni (they offer Sicilian style too), Lorenzo’s special Calzone: pepperoni, meatballs, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella, and ricotta cheese, a Caesar salad, and some pasta alfredo. I figured we would get a little bit of everything and with a family of 5 I wasn’t worried about not having enough!
The stand outs for sure were the deliciously fresh pizza, and the amazingly HUGE calzone both prepared with dough made from scratch daily and tons of cheese. Lorenzo’s uses fresh ingredients that are never frozen, makes it bread daily, and never uses a microwave and is shows because the food is great. Lorenzo’s has a large menu that includes numerous classic Italian entrees, baked dishes, hot or cold heroes, and pasta dishes. This family run establishment has warm and friendly service and makes a great neighborhood Italian go to for all occasions.
I am not sure why it has taken me so long to try this Scottsdale restaurant, but I will definitely be returning again and again to order more items from the menu!
