Whether you are celebrating Thanksgiving in a new house this year or the same house for years, new and old traditions help make the holidays special.
While many people firmly in the “no breakfast” on Thanksgiving to save room for the big meal later, my family loves to start the day with pancakes, waffles, eggs, even pie!
If you are in a new house, it may not feel like “home” yet. Take some time to go through old photos, tape photos and fall leaves on a wall to make a “family tree”. Buy an inexpensive white table cloth and leave fabric markers on the table to have everyone write what they are thank for, use the table cloth every year and have everyone add to it.
Invite everyone into the kitchen to help cook the big dinner. If you are in a new house this year, this is a great opportunity to show off your new kitchen. Assign family and friends kitchen duties and everyone will feel more useful and have more fun.
No one is ready for dessert right after dinner, so take the time to go on a long walk with your loved ones to enjoy your neighborhood. Maybe your neighbors will also be taking a walk and you catch take a moment to catch up.
If you don’t live close to your loved ones, thankfully you can still be together virtually! Do a video call before dinner or set them a place at the table and place a phone or tablet there to video call them during dinner. Make it annual thing so no one feels left out.
No matter how or where you celebrate, all of us at the Sibbach Team wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
