The MIM (Musical Instrument Museum) in Desert Ridge is hosting a variety of events on Saturday, August 13th for “Elvis Week”!
Start your day practicing your rock-and-roll dance moves and play a tune with your toes on the Toe-Tap Pianos! Try your skills on the eight-foot-long piano mats. Remember the day with a caricature drawn by local artist Dianne Nowicki of She Draws You Caricatures. Celebrate “The King” in style by making your very own microphone, you will be all set to sing along to your favorite Elvis tunes once your mic is in your hands. Then, strike your best pose in the Photo Booth and have your picture taken with costumes and props at MIM’s custom photo booth, and instantly get your own copy to take home.
A film screening of King Creole will be presented 10:30am-12:30pm. Don’t miss the chance to see one of Elvis’s best films on the big screen! He is joined by an impressive cast of costars, including Carolyn Jones, Walter Matthau, Dean Jagger, Paul Stewart, and Vic Morrow. Elvis delivered one of his finest performances portraying teenager Danny Fisher. In the movie when Danny drops out of school and has to support his unemployed father, he dabbles briefly in a life of crime before he is offered a singing job by a local club owner. Things seem to be looking up for Danny and his singing career. But it isn’t long before the local crime boss and rival club owner tries to lure him back into trouble.

Of course an Elvis-Inspired lunch menu will be available for purchase 11:30am–2:30pm. Try Café Allegro’s twist on down-home classics and sweet Southern treats. And be sture to stop in the Museum Store from 9am-5pm to purchase iconic Elvis featured items such as mugs, puzzles, books, CDs, stationery, magnets, and more.
